Beloved Community Team

The Beloved Community Team was chartered by the Vestry in October 2020. At the time, nearly the entire Vestry along with several parishioners had recently completed at least one of two online workshops through Crossroads Antiracism Organizing and Training and wanted to continue the conversation as well as education within the parish about systemic racism and social justice issues.  It is our hope that the Beloved Community can build a wider community that is comfortable talking honestly and openly about racial injustice in order to promote unity and healing.  If you are interested in joining the conversation as a Beloved Community Team member or would like information about upcoming meetings (via Zoom), please contact Kathy Stewart.  All are welcome!

Mission Statement:
Fostering a space to tell our stories and our truth about racial and social injustices, to begin to understand the past and present effect of racism in our society, and to create a community of healing and reconciliation.

Action Statement:
To proclaim the way of Jesus Christ through love, forgiveness, and justice to the St. Matthew community and beyond to take action to resolve social injustice.

Team Members:
Sueann Goretti
Kathy Stewart

Beloved Community Guidelines:
  1. We respect and value every member of Beloved Community, what they bring to the ministry, and the testimonies they share with us.
  2. Personal testimonies and stories shared during our time together are to be kept confidential unless the individual gives permission to share their story with others. We want to create a safe, healing space where members feel comfortable sharing their truth.
  3. Beloved Community is an open ministry. All are welcome to join.

We acknowledge that we are on the traditional homelands of the Puyallup Tribe. The Puyallup people have lived on and stewarded these lands since the beginning of time, and continue to do so today. We recognize that this land acknowledgement is one small step toward true allyship and we commit to uplifting the voices, experiences, and histories of the Indigenous people of this land and beyond.
